Kasturi Gogoi (b 21-02-2013), a Class IV student of Maria's Public School, Guwahati, and daughter of Mitali and Navajyoti Gogoi of Japorigog, Kamrup Metro, Assam, successfully swam (solo) across the Palk Strait from Sri Lanka to India when she was just 9 years 1 month 9 days old, becoming the youngest female swimmer to achieve it. She started from Talaimannar (Sri Lanka) at 01:00 a.m. on the 30th March 2022 and reached Arichal Munai Beach, Tamil Nadu (India) at 02:54 p.m. on the same day covering a distance of 29 k.m. in 13 hours and 54 minutes. Her Coach and Co-Swimmer Mr. Babul Gurung (43), a national record holder in swimming, also completed the feat in 13 hours and 50 minutes, becoming the first male swimmer from North East India to accomplish it.

The Assam Book of Records (ABR) recognises Kasturi Gogoi and her coach, Babul Gurung, for their achievement, and their names are listed in the national record category.
